Pastors Steve & Jeannie Perdue
Steve & Jeannie Perdue Senior Pastors Word Aflame Ministries

Both Steve and Jeannie grew up in pastor’s homes. Their Dads have both gone to be with
Jesus and their Moms and families live in Virginia and North Carolina. Jeannie was saved
when she was five years old when she heard Oliver B. Green preach on the radio while making
the bed with her mother. He was preaching from John 3:16.
Jeannie says that she, "Grew up “shouting” and speaking in tongues in old fashioned holiness
church", but she had a real consecration experience when she was 16, when she committed to
follow the Lord without reservation.
Steve became a Christian when he was seventeen at a youth camp in the mountains of North
Carolina. The Reverend Johnny Roberts was preaching on “Death in the Pot” from 2Kings 4:40.
When the invitation was given to accept Jesus, Jeannie left her boy friend and came and stood
beside Steve (with his girlfriend), put her hand on his arm and just stood there crying. In
Steve's own words, "That night I made the commitment that I have been able to keep: to serve
the Lord and not to give up when I messed up."
Jeannie and Steve were married in 1971. They have three children; Lori who went to be with
the Lord in 1993 at the age of twenty, Lance who is married to Judith and lives in Chicago and
Elisabeth who is a student at Southwestern Christian University. In regards to their family
Pastor Steve said, " I thank God for our family. We also have “children” in the faith who allow us
the privilege of being Mom and Dad. Jeannie and I are truly rich."
Steve's first full-time paid ministry position was in St. Albans, West Virginia. He served a
wonderful church, Trinity Fellowship, first as business manager, then as Associate Pastor.
Pastor said, "The Lord taught me so much there, especially in the area of leadership, in my
sixteen years there." His first Senior Pastorate was at New Covenant Church in Princeton, West
Virginia. He served there from 1986-1989, when he came to WAM.
Jeannie has said that she has always felt called to the ministry. She writes, "I always felt like
God had a work for me to do. As a child, I would sing just as loud as I could outside on my
swing because I was convinced the neighbors would hear and come to Jesus. When I was a
teenager I joked that I was called to be a pastor’s wife, because I could do a whole lot of things,
but none of them exceptionally well. For at least ten years that was not even a dream, but I
worked in many areas of the church…almost all. I taught 2 yr. Olds, teenagers, young adults,
played the piano, cleaned the church, led the choir and anything else, practically. Then, when
Steve did go into the ministry, I really was prepared for almost anything….except doing
nothing. It has been interesting redefining what God wants me for, and now I realize I am just
to be His in “whatsoever state I am in.”"
The Lord called them to Word Aflame Ministries in 1989. In the succeeding years the Lord has
blessed our body by their faithful love and ministry. Pastor Steve and Jean would like to say,
"We really love the people at WAM and feel loved by them. That has been true for the whole
fifteen years, without interruption."
